After a gruelling selection process over the past few months, the squad comprises seven of South Africa’s tried and tested fistballers, including (Back row l-r) Mzodidi Tutuka (ChickenDust FC), Justin Patrick (Kaapse Fisters FC), Rory Liedeman (Kaapse Fisters FC). Front row; Andrew Reid (North Beach Knuckledusters FC), Leif Petersen (C) (Goldfister FC) and Anthony Muteti (Goldfister FC). Inset is Nabeel Petersen (Goldfister FC).

Team Captain, Leif Petersen on leading the Mighty Galjoens into the World Championships:
“The IFA Men’s World Championships have been a lofty goal for some time in the eyes of the Fistball Association of South Africa. I am privileged to lead such a well honed sporting unit selected from the best of South Africa’s fistballers. The squad greatly looks forward the opportunity to demonstrate to the world South Africa’s potential to be a future fistball powerhouse. The league has put in the hard yards over the course of the last 12 months, and its fantastic to see how we have grown together as a sporting unit. Our squad the „Mighty Galjoens“ are named after the South African national fish, which is famed for its fighting qualities – we cant wait to demonstrate these attributes on the international stage“.

The Fistball Association of South Africa is currently running various fundraising events and seeking sponsors for the Mighty Galjoens campaign.
