Heute sprechen wir mit dem namibischen Nationaltrainer Christoph Kubirske (31) über den Faustballsport in Namibia, eine Bewerbung für die WM 2019 und der verjüngten Mannschaft für Argentinien. Und warum ein Spieler vom TSV Pfungstadt für Córdoba eingeflogen wird, lest ihr hier.
IFA: Hallo Christoph, du bist Sekretär des namibischen Verbandes, Spieler und Trainer zugleich, wie bringst du das alles unter einen Hut?
Christoph Kubirske: Es ist leider in vielen kleineren Sportverbänden so, dass die erfahrenen Spieler zusätzliche Agenden übernehmen müssen. Bei mir läuft das eigentlich ganz gut und ich mach es schon relativ lange. Immer neben der Arbeit mal ein paar Minuten Zeit für Faustball, diese Zeit kann ich mir dann schon nehmen.
IFA: Faustball wird in Namibia schon lange gespielt, jetzt habt ihr euch um die WM 2019 beworben. Wie sehen die Planungen dafür aus?
Christoph: Eine richtige Bewerbung haben wir nicht gemacht, eher eine Interessensbekundung. Wir sind hier eine handvoll Leute und würden es natürlich sehr gerne machen, aber nicht auf Biegen und Brechen. Wir als Verband leben von den Events die hier sind und da wäre eine WM schon eine riesen Sache. Nächstes Jahr wird auf jeden Fall wieder der Weltpokal in Namibia gespielt, das ist schon fix.
IFA: Wie steht es um den Faustballsport bei euch. Wie groß sind der Meisterschaftsbetrieb und der Jugendspielbetrieb bei euch?
Christoph: Also hier in Namibia haben wir zwei Ligen Meisterschaftsbetrieb mit 10 Mannschaften. Man kann sagen es finden an zehn Wochenenden im Jahr Meisterschaftsspiele statt. Die Situation mit der Jugend ist so eine Sache. Viele spielen in der Schule und verstreuen sich danach zum Studieren oder Arbeiten in der ganzen Welt. Einige kommen dann wieder zurück und spielen wieder bei uns. Daher konzentriert sich die Altersgruppe auf Jugendliche bis 19 und dann wieder Spieler über 30 Jahren.
IFA: Bei der WM in Cordoba wirst du auch als Spieler im Einsatz sein, wie vereinst du das mit deiner Rolle als Nationalcoach?
Christoph: Also ich leite das Training jetzt nur bei uns in Namibia. Bei der WM wird uns Oliver Späth vom TSV Pfungstadt für die drei Wochen betreuen.
IFA: Aha, wie seid ihr zu ihm gekommen?
Christoph: Im Jahr 2013 war der Weltpokal bei uns und da haben wir auch engere Kontakte mit Oliver und Nick Trinemeier geschlossen. Da unser Coach nach der WM 2011 seine Teamtätigkeit beendet hat, haben wir nach Alternativen gesucht. Wir hätten natürlich gerne beide im Betreuerstab gehabt, aber Nick spielt bekanntlich selbst für Deutschland.
IFA: Bei der letzten Weltmeisterschaft in Österreich warst du auch schon mit dabei, Namibia wurde dabei Achter. Wie stark seid ihr dieses Jahr?
Christoph: Ja, mittlerweile ist das meine vierte Weltmeisterschaft. Von 2011 sind aber nur mehr zwei Spieler mit dabei, Mark Roesener und ich. Die anderen Spieler kommen alle aus den Jugendnationalteams, die schon bei internationalen Nachwuchsturnieren am Start waren. Wir haben also eine sehr junge Mannschaft, der Altersschnitt liegt bei 25 Jahren. Wir wollen gegen die neuen Länder natürlich gewinnen, inwieweit sich dann gegen USA, Chile und Italien Chancen bieten werden, wird sich während des Turniers herausstellen. Ich denke wir werden so um die Plätze 8-10 mitspielen und das Beste herausholen, im günstigsten Fall verteidigen wir Platz 8 vom letzten Mal.
IFA: Wie sehen die letzten Vorbereitungen auf die Titelkämpfe bei euch aus?
Christoph: Wir werden bei uns vor Ort mit ehemaligen Nationalspielern, wie Michael Baas, der nach sieben WM-Teilnahmen nun zurückgetreten ist, noch einige Trainings abhalten um uns den nötigen Feinschliff zu holen. Spannend wird sicher auch der Umstand, dass wir mit Gian Rudolph, einen Spieler der in Deutschland lebt, unseren 10. Mann im Kader erst in Argentinien treffen werden.

Today we are talking to the Namibian national coach Christoph Kubirske (31) about fistball in Namibia, a bid for the World Cup 2019 and his young team for Argentina. Why a player from TSV Pfungstadt will be their coach for the tournament? Read it here.
IFA: Hello Christoph, you’re secretary of the Namibian Association, player and coach at the same time, how are you able to manage all these functions?
Christoph Kubirske: In many smaller sports federations, the experienced players have to take on additional agendas. For me, it’s actually running pretty well and I am doing it for a long period of time now. During work I’m able to take some minutes’ time for fistball, that’s what I’m doing.
IFA: Fistball is played in Namibia for a long time, now you have entered the bid for the World Cup 2019. What are the plans for it?
Christoph: It’s more an expression of interest than an official application. We are a handful of people here and would of course love to host that event, but not by hook or crook. We as an association need international events and a World Cup would be a huge thing for sure. Next year we are going to host the World Cup for Club teams, this is already fixed.
IFA: What about fistball in Namibia. How many teams are playing and what about young and talented players?
Christoph: Here in Namibia we have two leagues with five teams each and there are about ten weekends per year on which the matches are played. The situation of the young players is quite difficult. Many kids are playing at school but after finishing school they scatter all over the world to study or to work. Some come back later and play with us again. Therefore, the main age group are young people up to 19 and then players older than 30 years, there is almost nothing in between.
IFA: At the World Cup in Cordoba you’ll be in action as a player, how do you unite this with your role as a coach?
Christoph: It is right that I’m training the team in Nambia but at the World Cup Oliver Spaeth from TSV Pfungstadt is going to be our coach for three weeks.
IFA: Oh, why did you hire him?
Christoph: In 2013 the Club World Cup was held in our country, where we got to know the players of TSV Pfungstadt, so we have close connections with Oliver and Nick Trinemeier since that time. As our coach has retired after the 2011 World Cup, we were looking for alternatives. Of course we would have liked to have both in our coaching staff, but as we all know Nick plays for Team Germany there.
IFA: At the last World Championships in Austria you were already participating, Namibia finished eight. How strong is the team this year?
Christoph: Yes, this is my fourth tournament now. There are just two players left from 2011, Mark Roesener and I. All the other players are part of the former youth national team and have already competed in international junior tournaments. So we have a pretty young team, the average age is 25 years. We want to finish ahead all the new participating countries. Chile, USA and Italy are all not among the best teams but they are going to be better than us. I think we are challenging for the places 8-10 and bring out the best. We would be very happy, if we could repeat the 8th place from last time.
IFA: What are your final preparations for the title fights?
Christoph: We will still hold some training sessions on our site and gather with former internationals like Michael Baas, who has finally stepped down after seven World Cups. Exciting is certainly the fact that we’ll meet a player who lives in Germany (Gian Rudolph) and our coach not until we’ll arrive in Argentina.
